The Definitive Sherlock Holmes gathers the world’s most famous consulting detective in all his brilliance: the violin on a fog-bound evening, the sharp glance that misses nothing, the quiet voice that turns confusion into certainty. Here are the cases that made Sherlock Holmes immortal, from baffling disappearances and hidden identities to country-house secrets and crimes that seem impossible until Holmes begins to speak.

With Dr Watson beside him, Holmes moves through Victorian London and beyond, where every ash stain, footprint, telegram, and whispered lie may hold the key. The pleasure lies not only in the mystery, but in watching a mind at work with extraordinary precision.

For devoted admirers and first-time readers alike, this is Sherlock Holmes in his most essential form: thrilling, intelligent, atmospheric, and utterly unforgettable.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (22 May 1859–7 July 1930) was a writer and journalist, and was most famous as the inventor of Sherlock Holmes, a consulting detective.

Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh and trained as a doctor, gaining his degree from Edinburgh University in 1881. Sherlock Holmes made his first appearance in ‘A Study in Scarlet’, published in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887. After enjoying the popularity of the character, he decided to kill off the detective, but had to bring him back following the huge public outcry. He went on to write books like Lost World, while trying his hand at politics and immersing in spiritualism.
