Kavita Kumar was born in 1936 in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan). A master's degree holder from Delhi University, she has taught at the Directorate of Correspondence Courses, Delhi University; Lady Irwin College, Delhi; Degree College, Panipat; Janaki Devi College, Delhi, and Government College, Gorakhpur.
