Arun Gupto

Arun Gupto is the academic director at Institute of Advanced Communication, Education, and Research (IACER) and the director, comparativism at South Asian Foundation for Academic Research (SAFAR), both based in Kathmandu. He is engaged in the Rethinking South Asian Studies project that critiques the existing modes of area studies as the research cuts across the conventional and hegemonic discourses of regionalism.  Some of his latest books are Goddesses of Kathmandu Valley: Grace, Rage, Knowledge (2016), Theory and Criticism: Recent Writings from South Asia (2022) and Seasons of the Divine (2024). Art of the Lake (2011), Art and the City (2021) and Anger and the Mahatma (2023) are his recently directed and produced documentaries.
