Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (1820-1891) was one of the pillars of the Bengal Renaissance. He continued the social reform movement that was started by Raja Rammohan Roy in the early 1800s. Vidyasagar was a well-known writer, intellectual, and a staunch supporter of humanity. He was a social reformer who worked to improve the lives of women in India.
