Anurupa Devi

Anurupa Devi (1882–1958) was a pioneering woman writer of Bengal, many of whose novels were made into films and/or stage plays. She won several awards for her novels, including the Kuntalin Purashkar, and the Jagattarini and Bhuvanmohini gold medals. She wrote 33 novels, many short stories and essays, and Sahitye Nari: Sroshtri o Shristi, which was a collection of the Lila Lectures delivered at Calcutta University, an amazing feat for a woman who had received no formal education.
