AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet, writer and philosopher. Born around 21 May–20 June 1265
in Florence, Italy, his work, The Divine Comedy, originally called La divina commedia, is widely
considered one of the most significant epic poems of medieval European literature and the greatest literary work in the Italian language written till date. He was instrumental in establishing the foundation of literature of Italy. His depictions of Hell, Purgatory and Heaven provided inspiration for the larger body of western art and literature. He is described as the father of Italian literature and is often referred to as ‘il Sommo Poeta’ (the Supreme Poet) in Italy.
The Divine Comedy was critiqued by literary theorists and philosophers who have cherished this immortal work through the boundaries of time and space as it translates the stark truth of humankind’s temporality and eternal destiny into a poetics of effortless beauty. He died on September 13/14, 1321 in Ravenna.
