ABOUT THIS BOOK

Many years ago, George Curtis set out in search of the fabled diamond mines of
King Solomon and never returned. Several years later, his brother Henry Curtis and
friend Captain Good, enlist the support of hunter, tradesman and adventurer Allan
Quatermain to track down the missing person and the legendary mines through the
heartlands of Africa…
The first novel in English to be set in Africa, Haggard’s masterpiece is the definitive
adventure story in the lost world genre, where three explorers embark upon a
perilous journey to discover the mythical mines of King Solomon and in the process,
stumble upon the lost civilization of Kukuanaland.

AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

When Treasure Island was released in 1885, one of the author’s brothers wagered
that Haggard could write something as good, if not better. It was then that Haggard
began King Solomon’s Mines. It was an instant success, touted as the ‘most amazing
book ever written’. Haggard quickly followed it up with a sequel, Allan Quartermain
and later, with She, which remains one of the best-selling books of all time. Today,
he is primarily remembered as one of the foremost English writers of adventure
fiction and the father of the ‘lost world’ genre of Victorian fiction.
