Investigative Reporting category and Best Investigative Reporting Award by Asian College of Journalism.

He is also a recipient of the Lorenzo Natalie Journalism Prize, Developing Asia Journalism Award,

National RTI Award and Statesman Rural Reporting Award, among others.

Shyamlal has observed, voted in and covered elections, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, since 1989.
