Uday Basu

Uday Basu is a senior journalist who has earned accolades both within the country and outside for his free, frank and fearless pen. He has worked for over four decades in the leading English daily, The Statesman, serving the paper in different capacities and subsequently retiring as its Coordinating Editor. During his long career, he covered almost all aspects of public-social life, from administration, culture, education, and crime to politics. His Op-Ed pieces on politics and other issues had a huge readership. He made a mark in international forum travelling in different countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA with his journalistic work. He was inducted as chairperson of the US-based International Association of Religion Journalists (IARJ). He has penned two books: White Sahibs Brown Sahibs: An Insider’s Account of The Statesman (2024) and Left Out in Bengal (2012). Currently, he writes editorials for Orissa Post.
