Pradipta Borgohain

Pradipta Borgohain is a bilingual writer who has several full-length works and articles in journals, magazines and newspapers to his credit. The more notable are two travelogues, Linkonor Desot Atithi and Scrolls of Strife: The Endless History of the Nagas (in collaboration with Homen Borgohain); a work of criticism, Victorian Literature; a collection of miscellaneous essays, Rainbow Thoughts; and a novel in Assamese, Tumak Bisari.

He has also translated extensively, winning the Katha Award for Best Translation in Assamese in 1997. His translation The Collected Works of Homen Borgohain was longlisted for the Atta Galatta award in 2017. He translated Nirupama Borgohain’s Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel Abhiyatri as One Life Many Rivers. He contributed to the volume Alice in a World of Wonderlands: The Translations of Lewis Carroll’s Masterpiece. Most recently, his translations have appeared in The Greatest Assamese Stories Ever Told and Lapbah: Stories from the Northeast.

Pradipta has a PhD in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and now teaches English in Gauhati University, where he was also head of the department for two terms.
