Monimala Dhar

Monimala Dhar was born in Shillong and spent much of her early life there. Encouraged by her father, A.M. Dam—an esteemed administrative officer—she developed a deep love for Bengali literature. With a long and distinguished academic career, she has served as a teacher, vice principal, principal, and later as a chief administrative officer at reputed institutions.

A passionate and self-described ‘compulsive’ translator, Monimala Dhar is committed to making Bengali literary treasures accessible to a wider audience. Her translations include Byomkesh Bakshi Stories, When the Earth Was Young (a collection of reincarnation tales by Saradindu Bandopadhyay), and Rajkahini by Abanindranath Tagore.
