D Mehra

D. Mehra (1910-1997) was from a middle-class background and began his career by selling handkerchiefs in Calcutta's posh New Market. He had barely settled in the business when K. Jackson Marshall of William Collins & Sons, who was highly impressed by his selling techniques, approached him with a job offer. Marshall offered him a job in the book trade and so began Rupa & Co.
