George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister. He is considered a pioneer in the genre of fantasy literature. His writings have influenced the works of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, E. Nesbit, among many more. He also mentored Lewis Carroll, his fellow writer. Among his notable works are Phantastes (1858), David Elginbrod (1863) and At the back of the North Wind (1871).
